Simple But Effective!

I have a five year old daughter and when she was two, I went to Wal-Mart and bought her a set of sidewalk chalk.
It was simple, cheap and colorful, but I gave no thought to how much it would become a staple in her young life. Kayleigh loved her sidewalk chalk from the day I bought it for her and would sit outside in our gated yard for hours, drawing all over the driveway.
When it rained outside, she would cry that she was not able to go outside to "shalk". Eventually, my husband bought her a chalk board to use on rainy days.
As she grew older, she did not want to learn how to write letters using a pen and paper and would be very resistant to it. We decided to use the chalk board and the old sidewalk chalk to try and interest her in writing. THankfully, it worked and she really enjoyed it.
Of all the expensive electronic toys, stuffed animals and books, I never thought that sidewalk chalk would be the best toy that she could have gotten!
