You can create a plethora of pinata designs and shapes, pinatas are very versatile thing to make.

And you can call these home made pinatas really "cheap pinatas".You can find all the ingredients you need at home.

Elmo pinata, Cookie Monster pinata, Pooh pinata, pig pinata are all based on egg pinata. You can begin by creating simple shape of pinata, such as an egg, and work your way up to creating more complex designs, such as a pig or a horse.

Here are instructions on how to create an Egg Pinata -

Make a Pinata Egg

Materials -

  • 1 large egg-shaped balloon
  • Glue or masking tape
  • Paper mache Recipe
  • Scissors or sharp knife
  • Acrylic paints and/or Crepe paper
  • Cord
Make the mold
  1. Inflate the balloon.
  2. Cover the entire balloon with 2 layers of paper mache.
  3. Take care to cover the entire balloon with paper mache as you are working. If you apply paper mache to a part of a balloon and allow it to dry, it will pop.
  4. Let your pinata egg dry completely for 12 to 24 hours, depending on how humid it is.
  5. Cut a small opening at the top of your egg and add candy. Put masking tape over the opening.
  6. Cover the entire balloon with 2 more layers of paper mache, and allow it to dry again for 12 to 24 hours.
  7. Decorate the mold by using crepe paper or painting the mold.
  8. On the opposite sides at the top of the egg pinata, mark two spots with the help of a sharp pointed object so you can hang it up.
  9. Pass a cord through the two openings and tie the ends of the cord, and the pinata is ready to hang and play.
