Party Icebreaker Games For Preschoolers Party

Party Icebreaker games are just what you need to get all the kids attending the party involved. It’s time for the party and there will be ten kids here.
Some of them know each other and some don’t.Some of them all boisterous, some all shy. What are you going to do? Icebreaker games have been around for a very long time.

More than that, they are used in all kinds of situations, not just at parties.

Icebreaker games show up at school, at church, and at work when there are focus groups.

“But, these are little kids,” you say. Not to worry. There are some simple party icebreaker games these toddlers and preschoolers will love.

Kids Icebreaker Games

  • Show and Tell
  • In your invite, tell each parent to have their child bring something to the party that is special to them for some reason – a favorite stuffed animal, toy, or even a picture of it if the item can’t be taken from one place to another – a fish tank, for instance.

When the children arrive, have them put their favorite item somewhere safe until all the children have arrived. Then have each one come forward and get their favorite toy and tell about it: why they like it so much, what it does, who it is from, etc.

Parents, you may have to prompt some of those toddlers or preschoolers who are a bit shy. Each one should only speak for a minute or so, just enough that the other children see that this child likes the same kind of things they he or she likes.

For the older preschoolers who have the alphabet down, you might have them say their name and then say something they like that starts with the same letter as their name.

Something such as, “My name is Brett and I like balloons.” This lets each child hear the other child’s name and associate it with something they might know something about, also.

  • I See Something
  • Another party game for children that will help open up the party is I See Something.

Choose a child to go first – the birthday child, the youngest child, the oldest, etc. – and have that child describe something that he or she can see in the room or around the area where the party is.

They could describe a plant or a chair or a car that is in the park. The child who guesses correctly goes next.

  • If I Could Be
  • Choose a child to go first in whatever way you would like to do that. The child will say, “My name is ____________ and if I could be any ___________, I would be a ______________ because _______________.”

You can play this game using animals, superheroes, dancers, musicians, characters from a movie, etc. This type of game helps children begin to laugh together and the ice is broken.

These party icebreaker games do not need a lot of physical objects, usually, but they do need some forethought.

How many kids will be able to participate before it gets old? How long does it take? How old are the children who will be playing it? Try different ones with children of various ages – they’ll love getting to laugh with new friends.
