My son's 1st experience of a birthday party!

by Tylah Tan
(California )

My son was 2 years old when he first received an invitation for a birthday party of the son of my co - worker before. That was sometime in April last 2007.

We received an invitation card with the celebrant's picture in it and the color was of Barney's colors and the mascot's picture was in the card too. This really gave so much excitement on my son, seeing Barney's picture in the invitation card.

When the day of the party came, i dressed him up with a polo shirt paired with blue jeans and blue sneakers, then we went off for the party at around 2:00 o'clock in the afternoon. When we arrived at my co-worker's place, there were lots of kids there seated on small tables covered with pink, nice table cloths. There were lots of children there looking so excited of what the next happenings would be. My son, considering it was his first time, just stayed beside me and was hesitant to mingle with other kids smaller and bigger than him but i can see the glow in his eyes and the excitement that he is feeling at the moment.

Few tables were set at the center of a covered court looking like place in their place. There were about seven (7) small tables. The foods were situated at the front part which was also the stage. The foods were arranged so attractively for the kids and even for the parents around. There was the celebrant's three layered cake, spaghetti, burgers, fries, buttered chicken, some chips, loaves of bread, fish fillet, beef steak. There were lots of foods prepared.

Before the eating part was a show hosted by also a friend of mine who dressed up like a clown. He was dressed colorfully which was one head turner for all the kids present. He showcased some magics like pulling up some things from a black hat just like in televisions where the kids were so full of excitement and wondering where all those bunnies, flowers, and even doves came from and how they got into the hat which was shown empty at first.

Games At The Party

Then he asked some volunteers to play for statue dance. A music was played and the kids were asked to dance and when the music stops, the child who is still moving or dancing would then be asked to sit down but was given a lollipop so the child won't know that he actually lost in the game. The place was so full of kid's laughter and yelling for more games. You can see the happiness and the enjoyment that they feel at that time.

After the statue dance, the so called "clown" host introduced the game "bring me" where the host would say for example, bring me a wallet, then the kids would run to their moms and get their mom's wallet and give it to the clown and get a prize in return. This was another game the kids were crazy about.

After this game, was the eating time and one of the highlights of the eating part was at the right most side was somewhat an ice cream store and there was no limit and no requiring to pay. They had so much fun eating ice cream which of course was after they ate everything that was in the table.

My son, at this point was having so much fun you wouldn't think that he was a shy kid at first. While the parent's are still busy eating and the kid's too with their ice creams and fun stories to tell about the party, the clown host went on stage again and asked the kids' attention and ask them to gather together in towards the middle. Then, he asked them to look above, there the kids find some sticks tied together and a lot of candies and toys were tied in that stick and they were to pull those off to have the toys and candies for themselves as soon as the stick will be brought down for them to reach. It was such a fun moment for all the kids and the parents in the party. My son, was so excited jumping and luckily he got some candies and some water gun for himself. My son had the most happiest day in his 2 years of life on that day.

And the finale was even more exciting when the mascot Barney went out and his song was played and he danced and giggled around. All the kids were yelling out of excitement and happiness. My son even was like crying out of the excitement that he felt. It was such an awesome party to attend with.

Finally, the party ended with the celebrant handing out some plastic bags full of any kid stuff like toys and candies and some giveaways as appreciation for every kid's presence. So, this was my son's first birthday party experience. Actually, the first and the best yet.
