Little Princesses Party
by Margaret Jones
(Sydney, Australia)
Invitations to the princess party asked guests to come dressed as their favourite princess. Snow White, Belle and Sleeping Beauty all arrived as well Cinderella (only technically a princess after her marriage of course!) plus a number of other ‘royals’ created through the judicious use of old dressing up clothes and tiaras.
Little Princess Party Activities included -
• Etiquette for a princess
This required the little girls to learn deportment (walking with a book on their head around the room) the correct responses to the greeting ‘how do you do’ with ‘how do you do’ and how to deliver a hand for a commoner to kiss. All the princesses were awarded with a certificate which granted them the right to kiss and marry any talking frog they might come across.
• Reading of a favourite princess story from a ‘king’ seated upon a homemade throne
• Which princess is hiding
This one was a favourite where princesses dance until the music stops, then all lie on the ground with their eyes shut whilst the king covers one princess with an ermine robe. All the other princesses then have to guess who is hiding under the blanket
• Dancing princesses
Ths game was a princess variation on musical statues where the regal pose struck was as important as keeping perfectly still
• Making a Tiara
The popular craft activity for the little princess party. We used glass beads, glue and paper to make the Tiaras
Fairytale Castle Cake
A fairytale castle cake made from a square cake with swiss roll towers at each corner topped with upside down icecream cone turrets was the centre piece of the dainties for birthday lunch.
Lunch included cucumber sandwiches (with no crusts as served at Buckingham Palace of course!), chocolate covered strawberries and multicoloured jellies with cream and sprinkles.
