Kids Learning Games - Teaching The Concept Of Time
It takes consisitency, patience and some fun kids learning games to teach preschoolers the concept of time.
But the key is repitition which can be easily acheieved by kids learning games like these. In addition to purchasing a clock that includes different colored hands that make distinguishing between the minute and hour hands easier, here are some fun learning games you can incorporate into each day that will reinforce time telling concepts. Since telling time is a concept rather than a concrete object, it must be explained over and over until the child understands how to measure time using a clock face. Children understand concepts at their own pace, so don't worry if your preschooler takes his at first.
Learning Games For Kids
Begin the time learning journey with this simple kids learning game.A simple naming game like this can be a good beginning you need when teaching your children the basics. Using descriptive words your preschooler can relate to, will make this much easier. Most children respond to little hand, the hour hand and big hand, minute hand since the length of each is the most noticeable difference on any clock face. By naming the different hands on the clock, you can create the foundation on which to tell time. Sit with your child as you name the different parts of the clock. Point the different hands to name them. Ask your preschooler to repeat what you've said and point as well. In the beginning just randomly ask your little one to tell you the time, "Which number is the big hand on, and where is the little hand now?" Also, letting your prescholer know, about certain times of the day when particulat things start, be it their favourite television show or his nursery times, these help as well.
There are some good kids online educational games websites on the internet which have some really good time learning games. This can be another easy and fun way of repeatition to teach time.
Begin with explaining the concept of hour and then progressing to half an hour is the easiest way to go about. Gradually progressing to 15 minute intervals. An example would be, Roary the racing Car, television show starts at half past five. Since Adi has already started understanding the hour hand, we have now moved to discussing half an hour intervals.Everytime before the program is about to begin, I ask him if the big hand is on 6 and little one on 5 yet? It has been working very well.
Once your preschooler can identify the little hand and the big hand and has an understanding of time intervals, another childrens educational game that you can introduce them to is simple time telling, by having them draw clock faces and pointing the hands at different numbers on the clock. For each clock face they draw, tell them what time it is. In a similar game, ask your preschooler to draw clock faces with specific times on them or you can draw a few clock faces and ask them to tell you the time.
