Halloween Crafts For Kids

Kids Halloween Party Ideas

A halloween party is not complete without some easy halloween crafts for kids.
A good time to have your little guests get creative is after they have had some fun playing games for halloween and you want them to settle down before you serve them some delicious halloween treats.

These easy halloween arts and crafts are suitable for very young children, and they can be adapted for older children and adults as well.

You may want to make a finished example of each of these crafts before the party so the children have something to look at if they need help.

Halloween Arts And Crafts For Kids

  • Make a Pumpkin Face
  • For this children halloween crafts activity, you will need enough small pumpkins so every guest gets one, several bottles of acrylic paints in different colors, paintbrushes, cups for water, smocks or old tee-shirts and empty egg cartons.

To set up for this activity, squirt a tablespoon or so of paint in each egg carton hollow, depending on how much paint you have and how many colors you have available.

When the children are seated, give them each a smock or tee shirt, a pumpkin, an egg carton with paint, a paintbrush, and a small cup with water.

Once they are settled, tell them they can decorate their pumpkin any way they want. You may want to show them pumpkins you have already decorated as an example.

For children who finish sooner than the others, you may want to have other crafts supplies handy, such as glue, beads, sequins, stickers, and the like. This will give them the chance to decorate their pumpkins even more.

  • Create a Spooky Spider
  • In this creative halloween crafts for kids activity, you will need black paint, colored construction paper, glue, paintbrushes, googly eyes, small plastic bowls, and a smock.

You also want to make sure the children have access to a sink, or some soap and water, as this activity is a little messy. Before the activity, squirt several tablespoons of paint into each bowl.

To start, give each child a smock, a sheet of construction paper, a bowl of paint, and a paintbrush. You can have groups of two or three share a bowl of paint, but make sure each child gets their own paintbrush.

Instruct the children to take the paintbrush, dip it in the paint, and paint the palm of one of their hands - except for the thumb! Next, tell them to make sure their palm is facing the paper, and to turn their hands so their thumb is pointing up.

Once their hand is turned, have them make a hand print on the paper. Have them do the same thing with their other hand.

Once they have created the spider, have them wash and dry their hands. When they come back to their seat, pass out the googly eyes and glue. Have the children glue eyes to their spider, and put it aside to dry.

  • Make a Stuffed Pumpkin
  • To make a stuffed pumpkin, you will need sheets of paper with an outline of a pumpkin - making sure you have enough so each guest receives two - markers, scissors, newspaper, batting, or cotton balls, and staplers.

Before the party, create the pumpkin outlines in a word processing or paint program, and print them out on a printer.

When the children are seated, pass out the paper and the markers, and have them decorate both pumpkin pictures. Tell them one pumpkin outline is the front, and the other is the back.

When they have finished decorating their pumpkins, pass out the scissors and have them cut out each side of the pumpkins along their outlines.

Once they have done that, help them attach the front and back of their pumpkin with the stapler, creating a seam along the edges. Be careful that you don't create a seam all the way around, since you still need a little bit of space to stuff the pumpkins.

Once the guests have stapled their pumpkins, pass out the newspaper, batting, or cotton balls. If you are using newspaper, tell the children to rip it into medium sized pieces and crinkle them up into balls.

Show them how to do this if they need help. Their next step is to stuff their pumpkins, being careful they don't stuff them so much they tear. When the pumpkins are stuffed, help them staple along the edge of the rest of their pumpkins so the stuffing doesn't come out.

  • Decorate a halloween mask
  • Many arts and crafts stores have pre-made, inexpensive paper mask forms, you can have your guests decorate their own masks.

For this activity, you will need many different craft materials such as beads, pom poms, pipe cleaners, string, yarn, raffia, feathers, buttons, sequins, glitter, puff paint, and quick-drying acrylic paint.

You will also need scissors, glue, and paintbrushes. Don't be afraid to let your imagination be your guide when choosing materials for this activity!

Instead of passing out all of the materials to the guests, you may want to create "stations" instead.

For example, you may want to create a string "station" with string, yarn, raffia, and other string-like materials with scissors and glue.

Little guests who want to put these materials on their mask go to the station instead of waiting for them to be passed out.

You may also want to create a bead and button station, a paint station, a glitter and sequin station, and a pom pom station. After you pass out the masks, have your guests go to whichever station they choose.
