Some fun educational games for kids are just what you need
to get kids started with their number learning.
![]() Adi, my 3 year old, loves cars, so if I play the counting game with him, he shows more interest if we do it with cars. So, as long as you involve your little ones' favourite toy or character, you are sure to get the results you want with such educational games for kids. Some simple day to day activities and games are all you require for preschool kids to enjoy learning their basics.
Preschool Kids Games - Number Games
This is one of the easiest preschool numbers activity to learn numbers, and you can play this any where/any time. Even though it seems such a simple activity its very effective in kids grasping the concept of numbers. You can count objects inside the house, count stairs while going up or down in your house getting your preschooler involved. Outside home, you can count trees, cars, houses as they pass by. Simply anything you see or anything that he finds eye-catching. We count cars, trucks, sometimes even dogs while driving. And after doing it few times Adi starts counting on his own, which we find more rewarding. Here's a list of few things that you can count -
I am a great fan of this one. It is so much fun to make a preschooler find some numbers printed on Paper, advertisements, boxes etc. This is again one of those any where - any time activity which gives it more spontaneity and infuses enthusiasm. Just begin with, 'I spy with my little eye Number 3 on the big red games box, can you find it?' and let your child find the number. Fun educational game to learn some number recognition. Just make sure you have the item with the number on it some where close by.
The general household items can be numbered up, with small number stickers. My chest of drawers has 5 drawers, Since my 3 year old is moving ahead of 10, my drawers are numbered from 11-15. Whenever I need something from these drawers I ask him to get it laying emphasis on the drawer number. You can number kitchen drawers, cabinets or dining chairs in the house. Involve them while doing stickers up on the items, it does get the kids all excited about it. You can even get some help from your ever eager preschooler to put up the stickers on the drawers.
Choose a number say for example 7, and try to spot that number. When in a shop try with price tags, on the road there are sign boards, car number plates etc. Begin the game by showing your kid how it is to be played. And, believe me it won't be long when they take the lead. You can enjoy playing this game and do some alphabet hunting as well. Take a look at some of these free preschool games to teach alphabets here
Puzzles top my list as one of the best preschool educational games for kids to learn and play. Its great as an activity on its own that keeps them occupied while learning logic and much more at the same time. Playing treasure hunt with puzzle pieces is one of those. Hide the puzzle pieces - essentially a number printed on it, if its a number game - around in the room and leave clues for each piece. Simple clues like a TV picture if its behind the TV, for example. And direct your child to find that piece. Usually the puzzle piece has a number on it and a picture of an animal or fruit etc. Once your child finds the puzzle piece, sit with him and ask him to identify the number and count the items on the piece. Do not use too many puzzle pieces at one time while playing this preschool numbers game. That may confuse his ability, and may fade his interest.
Most of these educational games for kids mentioned in this section are anywhere - anyplace kind, come in handy when needed, especially when diverting attention of these little trouble makers.
