Birthday/Halloween Party

by Evelyn
(Las Vegas, NV)

My sons birthday is on October 26th which is obviously really close to Halloween.

For my sons 4th birthday, I wanted to have a party at my house for him and decided to make it a Halloween theme since it was almost Halloween. I sent out invitation to all his friends at his preschool and mentioned that it is also a Halloween theme and that all the kids could wear their Halloween costumes.

One of my friends helped me organize everything. At that time there was a Halloween store where I lived and we were able to pick up all kinds of wall decorations, party decorations and they even had some Halloween games that the kids could play.

Another thing I wanted to do, to make the party memorable for the guests was to take poloroid pics of them as they entered the house and then give them the pic when they were ready to leave. My friend and I made this back drop made out of science project cardboard. We covered it with orange paper and put a sign at the top that said Happy Halloween and bought one of those scarecrows they sell at Walmart and stood it up off to the side. And we also found fabric fall leaves and spread them out on the ground in front of the back drop. So when the guest came in, they were all dressed up in their costume, we had them stand in front of the back drop and took their picture. Then when they left we gave them the picture.

The goody bags were easy to do because of course at Halloween time there are lots of little toys and goodies the kids love to play with. The games that we bought, we put outside on the patio and the kids could go from game to game and play them.

As for food, well they were all preschoolers and what little kids dont like pizza. But instead of ordering pizza from Pizza Hut or somewhere, I just bought about 6 frozen pizzas and just put them in the oven. These went so fast that I had to send my husband out to get a couple more. But if you buy the store brand, they are only like $3 each which is better than 1 $10 medium pizza that you order in. And you know kids love chips & dip so we had that too and that was just right for them.

I havent done this type of party again, but I just might consider doing it for my sons next birthday.
