A Preschoolers' Party - Puzzle Hunt

The best way to keep 3-5 year olds entertained is the classic treasure hunt or easter egg hunt, but add a little twist.
My four year old recently went to a party with this concept, where throughout the backyard they had little gifts in boxes where the box contained pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. The jigsaw puzzle was actually a "happy birthday" jigsaw puzzle.
So all of the kids went out looking for the pieces in the yard, would unwrap the boxes, then place the pieces in the center and would help to figure out how to put the puzzle together.
Finding the pieces can take 30 minutes or so, then putting the puzzle together is another 15. Plus it is extremely cheap, and to put the boxes together (should be bright for the kids) is all of 10 dollars cost.
Reward them as well with a piece of candy in the box when they get the puzzle piece. To make it longer, hide one piece under a rock or something where at the end, all the kids are trying to find it and the parent has to help.
